New Artwork, Installations And Projection Mark 80th VE Day Anniversary In Harrogate
New artwork, installations and projections can now be seen around Harrogate as part of the town’s VE Day 80th anniversary commemorations.
The Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID) team were pleased to offer funding alongside the Charter Trustees of Harrogate to create these new displays to mark the milestone in the North Yorkshire town, in response to a gap created by the new Unitary Authority in the region.
Working alongside key partners, the team has created a suitable commemorative plan for the town, which will also feature a contained commemoration around the Cenotaph area on the date of the VE Day 80th anniversary – Thursday, May 8th.
Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID Chief Executive, said: “We’re honoured to deliver this commemorative plan on behalf of not only the influential partners we’ve worked alongside, but our town as a whole.
“VE Day is a key time for remembrance, reflection and celebration – so we felt it was very important to mark such a fundamental milestone.
“We now look forward to hosting the commemoration ceremony tomorrow and thank everyone that has been involved in the planning and organisation stages.”
Both Union Jack and red, white and blue flag bunting now lines the town centre streets, while the BID’s creative lighting along Beulah Street and around the Cenotaph has also been changed to match a similar colour scheme.
The BID has been delighted to work alongside Charter Mayor Cllr Chris Aldred, Charter Trustees for Harrogate, The Royal British Legion, St Peter’s Church, Harrogate Army Foundation College, the Harrogate Band and the Air and Sea Cadets to bring this plan to fruition.
As previously mentioned, the contained commemoration will be held around the Cenotaph area from 5.30pm on the evening of May 8th to mark the occasion. For further information, please contact the Harrogate BID team on info@harrogatebid.co.uk
