Attending Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce meetings are a key benefit of Chamber membership, which enable our members to meet and build excellent business relationships with many other members. Our meetings are informative, educational and relevant to supporting business. They are usually held on the second Monday of each month at members' venues in and around Harrogate.

Our meetings are FREE for members and non-members attending their first meeting. Guests must then join to attend further meetings.

Members and guests arrive from 17.30 for informal networking, when complimentary refreshments are served. The meeting commences at 18.15, finishing by 20.00.

Spams & Scams - How AI is Reshaping Trust and Identity

12th October 2026 - Members and First Time Visitors Only
17:30 - 20:00

Businesses are embracing AI to improve productivity, enhance customer experiences, generate insights, and reduce costs. Criminals are embracing the very same technology to create more convincing scams, automate fraud, and scale attacks like never before. As a result, AI’s users are increasingly becoming its victims, navigating fake websites, fraudulent invoices, cloned voices, fabricated videos, and convincing digital identities.

AI is casting doubt over everything we see and hear. Once considered one of the most trusted forms of evidence, even video can no longer be taken at face value. Scammers are exploiting every advance in AI to blur the line between genuine and fake, making fraud more convincing and harder to detect than ever before. Last year, 66% of people said it was difficult to distinguish scams from legitimate communications. Today, that figure has risen to 85%, across every region, age group, and level of AI familiarity.

Tonight's presentation explores both the opportunities AI creates and the risks it introduces. We'll examine how cybercriminals are weaponising the same technology businesses are using to innovate, why trust has become the new battleground, and what organisations can do to stay one step ahead.
