The Northern Powergrid, 33KV scheme
Otley Road, Harrogate 14/7 – 15/8 Road closure This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date to be confirmed.
Leeds Road 13/5 – 22/6 Multiway signals they have a small section to complete between Trinity Road and St George’s roundabout in which they are looking at commencing 11/8 – 5/9 under two-way lights
Otley Road 11 – 17/8 Multiway signals This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date to be confirmed.
York Place 11 – 17/8 This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date to be confirmed.
Knaresborough Road -Revised dates 14/07 -01/09 ( Previously 14/8 – 9/9) Multiway signals. The work on the High Street has been brought forward, we have therefore agreed to continue with rolling temporary lights at this location to ensure completion on this route before September school term starts.
High Street – Revised dates 14/07- 26/07 ( Previously 29/6 – 12/7) Multiway signals
Clarence Drive 14/07 until 03/08/2025 Road closure
York Road 23/7 until 03/08 Temporary lights
Cold Bath Road 4/08 until 10/08 Road closure.
Leeds Road 11/8 until 05/09 Temporary lights ( these will be manually controlled with ambassadors) Northern Powergrid recently completed a section of works on at this location however due to the Great Yorkshire Show they cleared the site so have a small section to return to complete between Trinity Road and St Georges Roundabout.
Northern Powergrid, 11KV scheme
There are a number of upcoming schemes ( but no agreed dates yet). These will be at the following locations:
Scheme 1: Harrogate District Hospital scheme - Wayside Avenue, Hookstone Drive, Wayside Crescent, St Leonards Road.
Scheme 2: Swan Road and slightly on the A61 and to the substation on Trafalgar Road
Scheme 3: Road Rear of Beechwood Crescent along Cold Bath Road to Valley Drive
Scheme 4: A joint bay on Portland Crescent and a joint bay on Kings Road
Scheme 5: Crescent Road, Kings Road, Parliament Street, Ripon Road
Discussions are ongoing and we will advise of agreed dates as soon as we have these to share.
Harrogate Spring Water Scheme
Skipton Road, Killinghall is now complete.
Oaker Bank, Harrogate is now complete.
Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road and Harlow Moor Road. No further updates regarding programme at present.
Northern Gas – Ripon Road
Northern Gas are carrying out emergency works on Ripon Road, this does mean 4-way lights at the junction Parliament Street and a road closure on Parliament Street. Diversion signs will be in place. This work is due to be complete 2nd August.
Tesco S278 Highway Improvements - Skipton Road, Killinghall
18 Aug - 10 Nov. A one-way closure will be in place on Skipton Road, a signed diversion route will be in place.
North Yorkshire Council Highway works
Victoria Avenue - Active Travel Fund
These works are delayed slightly due to unforeseen circumstances on site and will be complete by 4th August. Following the completion of this improvement scheme we do have further maintenance work on the carriageway to deliver, this will take place from 4th August, working hours 06.00hrs to midnight.
Wetherby Road – New Signalised Toucan Crossing ( at the junction with Slingsby Walk )
18th August – 3 weeks. There will be a footway closure ( with diversion in place) during the works. Work in the carriageway will be delivered on 2-way lights with night time closures to facilitate the final resurfacing and lining work. Advance notice boards will be erected and letters to residents, businesses and stakeholders will be issued in due course. Given the location of this closure we will also seek to raise the profile of any closures on social media, to ensure all travellers into Harrogate are aware.
Capital resurfacing schemes
Kings road in Harrogate is complete. As the programme continues properties and businesses in the vicinity of the works will receive letters detailing the scheme. Advance notice boards will be erected 2 weeks in advance of the work commencing. Whilst access will be maintained where possible we are reaching out to any businesses who may be directly impacted to ensure they have direct contacts during the works.
Woodfield Road – Due to complete 28th July.
Belford Road and Tower Street- Due to start Monday 14th August to 4th September -7pm to midnight.
Coppice Drive- Onsite and due to complete 24th July.
A61 Carriageway Resurfacing works
The works are currently programmed to commence on 04/08/25 and will be carried out under a full road closure with access for residents and businesses within the closure between the hours of 19:00 – 06:00 for a period of 20 Nights - Monday to Friday, Saturdays may be used if programme slips behind due to weather or breakdowns. A plan showing the extent of the works is enclosed for your information.
A59 New Road, Holly Cottage to Rainshaw Farm – Carriageway Surfacing Works.
The works started 21/07/25 and will be carried out under a full road closure with access for residents and businesses within the closure between the hours of 19:00 – 06:00 for a period of 13 Nights - Monday to Saturday.
North Yorkshire Council - Lining work
During the month of August, we will be carrying out some extensive lining work in Harrogate town centre, details of which can be found on the plan attached. This will be complete on night shifts under mobile 2 and 3-way lights.
You will appreciate there is a lot of work taking place by both the utility companies and the highways team, all positive improvements but I appreciate the impact on the travelling public can be perceived as negative. Programmes can change quickly, so the above dates shared in monthly updates may soon become out of date, for this reason I have included the one network link where further information regarding road works and associated diversions can be found: Causeway one.network
