Zero Carbon Volunteer Role - Treasurer


Zero Carbon Harrogate (ZCH) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), working to effect change across the district so that we can rapidly become a leading low carbon economy.

ZCH is primarily a volunteer-led organisation and relies on the time, skills, and ideas that volunteers generously offer.

We are seeking someone with financial experience to take over from our existing Treasurer who is leaving due to personal circumstances.  This is an exciting time for ZCH as deliver a range of funded projects and seek opportunities to expand and extend our current capacity to affect change.

The Treasurer is a member of the Board of Trustees which currently meets every quarter.  Board members are all volunteers.

The role includes:

  • Managing cashflow, including overseeing bank accounts and making payments in online banking system. 

  • Reviewing and approving monthly payroll and monitoring timesheets. Assisting the Board to set and update salaries.  

  • Recording all expenditure and receipt of money.  

  • Preparing monthly management accounts. 

  • Preparing annual budgets and cashflow projections.  

  • Preparing a financial update for quarterly Board meetings. 

  • Preparing annual accounts and a financial summary for presentation at the AGM and to The Charity Commission (including assisting independent examiner / audit process). 

  • Assisting with drafting financial aspects of grant applications and subsequent grant monitoring reports. Monitoring spend against individual grants and reporting to Trustees. 

  • Providing general financial advice and support to the management committee, including ensuring all financial procedures and controls are in place. Ensuring that the organisation complies with all relevant financial legislation and regulation. 

Qualities & Skills required: 

Experience in an Accountancy / Treasury role is required. A professional accountancy qualification (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, AAT etc.) would be preferred, but not required. Due to the responsibility carried in this role, two references will be required on application.

Practical information:

The time commitment varies, but on average, the role will require approximately 2-4 hours per week. Days and time of week are flexible, and you will work from home.

Board meetings are held once per quarter, alternately online and in person. The Core Team (a subgroup of the Board) meets every month and occasional attendance will be required at for parts of this meeting to update the team on financial matters.
