Harrogate Volunteer's 70km Birthday Challenge in Aid of Horticap

A dedicated Harrogate volunteer is marking a landmark birthday in remarkable style this May - walking 70 kilometres across the Yorkshire Dales to raise vital funds for local horticultural charity Horticap.

Alistair Garnett, a trustee and long-standing volunteer at Horticap, will tackle the iconic Six Dales Trail over 7th and 8th May to celebrate turning 70 - covering a kilometre for every year of his life in a challenge that perfectly reflects his commitment to the charity he loves.

Horticap provides therapeutic horticultural activities for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties across the Harrogate district. The charity's work helps participants build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy the proven wellbeing benefits of working with nature, all under their ethos of "Growing Together in Harrogate."

The Six Dales Trail is a challenging route through some of North Yorkshire's most spectacular countryside, threading through the valleys of Nidderdale, Colsterdale, Coverdale, Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Wharfedale. Completing the full route across two consecutive days is a serious undertaking by any measure - but Alistair's passion for Horticap's work looks set to carry him every step of the way.

Whether you know Alistair, support Horticap's mission, or simply admire someone turning 70 in such fine style, this is a wonderful cause to get behind.
