Welcome To The August 2026 Business Review
I won't dress up this month's figures. Dwell time, footfall and retail performance are all softer than any of us would like, and I know those numbers aren't abstractions - they're felt on the shop floor, in the order book and in the quiet conversations business owners are having with themselves at the end of a long week. It would be wrong of me to gloss over that.
But figures tell us where we've been. They don't decide where we're going.
What they don't capture is the considerable amount of work happening behind the scenes to build a more resilient future for Harrogate and District. Conversations are underway, plans are being shaped, and the right people are being brought around the table. Much of it isn't yet visible - but it is real, it is progressing, and it is being driven by people who care deeply about this district's prospects.
At the Chamber, that determination is showing in our own numbers. Membership is up, and we're grateful for the many kind words about the support we're providing and the doors we're helping to open with key influencers and decision-makers. That growth matters - not for its own sake, but because a stronger collective voice is precisely what's needed when trading conditions are testing.
Harrogate and District has weathered harder seasons than this one. We'll weather this one too, and we'll do it better together than apart.
