Harrogate Chamber to Explore the Future of Retail and Tourism at Landmark May Meeting
Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) has announced that its upcoming meeting will focus on the vital sectors of retail and tourism. Titled "Retail & Tourism: What Makes Harrogate Tick?," the event will feature a panel of key decision-makers from North Yorkshire Council and the Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID).
Taking place on Monday 11th May at 5.30pm in the historic Old Swan Hotel, the meeting aims to provide members with a transparent look at the strategic plans intended to drive the district’s economy forward. Attendees will hear from the new CEO of Harrogate BID, Jason Maxwell, and speakers from North Yorkshire Council: Tony Watson, Head of Economy & Tourism and Steve Brown, Head of Parking Services.
The tourism and retail sectors underpin the Harrogate economy, and the session will address future developments - both within the town and across the wider district.
Tony Watson will provide an update on the work undertaken by the Council over the last 12 months, as well as a roadmap for supporting Harrogate and Harrogate businesses in 2026 and beyond.
Steve Brown will introduce the purpose and scope of the Council's Local Area Action Plans (LAAPs). These plans are intended to provide a structured, place-based framework to help shape local parking and traffic management, reflecting the specific priorities of individual communities.
Phill Holdsworth, HDCC President said:
"Understanding the strategic direction of our tourism and retail sectors is essential for every business in the district, not just those directly involved in those industries. We are pleased to welcome Tony, Steve and Jason to provide our members with direct insights into the plans that will shape Harrogate’s economic landscape over the coming years."
Following the main presentations and Q&A session, the Chamber will conduct its AGM. This is a formal opportunity for members to hear updates on the Chamber’s progress, participate in governance, and help shape the organisation’s priorities for the year ahead.
The meeting will open at 5.30pm with a period of open networking, before the main presentations commence at 6.15pm. It is scheduled to conclude at 8pm.
Registration is now open for members and first time visitors via the Chamber website: www.harrogatechamber.co.uk/events
