From Taskmaster Challenges To Sleeping Beauty Magic: Summer Workshops Announced For Harrogate Youth Theatre

This summer promises to be an exciting one for our Youth Theatre as it brings three inspiring workshops to Harrogate Library as part of the National Year of Reading 2026 celebrations.

Designed to spark imagination, build confidence and encourage a love of storytelling, these sessions offer young people the chance to get creative, make new friends and discover the joy of theatre in a fun and welcoming environment. Best of all, there’s no need to be a current Harrogate Youth Theatre member to take part, everyone is welcome.

For older children and teenagers, we’re bringing the wonderfully chaotic world of Taskmaster to life with two special workshops for young people currently in Years 7-13. Inspired by the hit television show and featuring challenges set by none other than Little Alex Horne, these sessions promise plenty of laughter, creative thinking and classic Taskmaster mischief. Participants will tackle a series of quirky tasks, creatively solve unusual problems and work together in teams, all while developing communication, confidence and performance skills.

We’ve partnered with North Yorkshire Council Youth Service to offer ten places free of charge for disadvantaged young people. If this applies to you, please ask your youth worker for more information.

For younger children currently in Years 3-6, our Play in a Day workshop offers a full day of imagination, games and storytelling, culminating in a unique performance for family and friends. This session invites participants to embark on a magical dreamland adventure inspired by this year’s Harrogate Theatre pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. Throughout the day, we will work together to create an original story, drawing inspiration from the magical worlds found in our favourite books and fairy tales.

Led by Harrogate Youth Theatre’s experienced team of highly trained theatre professionals these workshops provide a lively, supportive space where everyone can get involved, have fun and embrace the unexpected.

Elizabeth Key, Creative Engagement Manager (maternity cover) says,

“Harrogate Youth Theatre is delighted to be taking up residence at Harrogate Library for these workshops, making the most of a space that celebrates reading, creativity and imagination. The collaboration is a perfect fit for the National Year of Reading, encouraging young people to discover how stories and imagination can leap from the page onto the stage.

Whether your child has attended Harrogate Youth Theatre before, taken part in one of our after-school clubs or is completely new to us, these sessions are designed to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible for everyone. We can’t wait to welcome young people to Harrogate Library this summer for a season of stories, challenges, laughter and unforgettable theatrical adventures.”
