Forewarned is Forearmed : Planned Highways Works For September 2025 and Beyond


The Northern Powergrid, 33KV scheme

  • Otley Road, Harrogate 14/7 – 15/8 Road closure This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date still to be confirmed but it is likely early 2026 start date.

  • Otley Road 11/8 – 17/8 Multiway signals. This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date still to be confirmed but it is likely early 2026 start date.

  • York Place 11 – 17/8 This has been cancelled and will be re programmed to carry out works at the same time as proposed remedial works at the Prince of Wales roundabout. Date to be confirmed. However they do have a section on the bridge near Stray Rein to complete and hope to complete this  23rd October - 19th November under a lane closure.

  • Knaresborough Road -Revised dates 14/07 -08/09 ( Previously 14/08 – 9/09) Multiway signals. The work on the High Street has been brought forward, we have therefore agreed to continue with rolling temporary lights at this location to ensure completion on this route before September school term starts. Ongoing now, they will move to night works when they carry the roundabout section out.

  • Leeds Road 11/8 until 05/09 Temporary lights ( these will be manually controlled with ambassadors) Northern Powergrid recently completed a section of works on at this location however due to the Great Yorkshire Show they cleared the site so have a small section to return to complete between Trinity Road and St Georges Roundabout.  Multiway signals they have a small section to complete between Trinity Road and St George’s roundabout in which they are looking at commencing 11/8 – 5/9 under two-way lights This is ongoing now, the Streetworks Inspector has visited all is running well. They are approaching the roundabout section. 

Northern Powergrid, 11KV scheme

There are a number of upcoming schemes. These will be at the following locations: 

  • Scheme 1: Harrogate District Hospital scheme - Wayside Avenue, Hookstone Drive, Wayside Crescent, St Leonards Road.

  • Scheme 2: Swan Road and slightly on the A61 and to the substation on Trafalgar Road

  • Scheme 3: Road Rear of Beechwood Crescent along Cold Bath Road to Valley Drive

  • Scheme 4: A joint bay on Portland Crescent and a joint bay on Kings Road

  • Scheme 5: Crescent Road, Kings Road, Parliament Street, Ripon Road

Discussions are ongoing and dates are still to be agreed.

Yorkshire Water 

  • You will be aware that Yorkshire Water ( YW) have an Improvement programme to carry out in Harrogate Town centre. Highways are in discussions with YW regarding appropriate programming in the new year, therefore start dates are still to be determined. 

Harrogate Spring Water Scheme 

  • 24th Nov - 9th January - Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road – traffic management will be temporary lights 

  • 12th - 30th January Harlow Moor Road– traffic management will be temporary lights. These dates are pending as further discussion with NYC officers is needed. 

Northern Gas – Hookstone Drive

  • Hookstone Drive – the mains replacement works still continue under rolling traffic lights, they are looking to complete by 12th September, but conversations are taking place to try to complete the works prior to the school reopening. They will need to return as they require multiway lights at the junction of Wetherby Road.

Skipton Road, Killinghall. Tesco S278 Highway Improvements.

  • 18 Aug - 10 Nov. A one-way closure will be in place on Skipton Road, a signed diversion route will be in place.

Victoria Avenue Active Travel Fund – North Yorkshire County Council Highway works.

  • Works are complete

North Yorkshire Council Highways Capital resurfacing schemes.

  • Belford Road and Tower Street- Resurfacing works are ongoing, programme is progressing well with a completion date anticipated 12th September 25.

A61 Carriageway Resurfacing works

  • Resurfacing complete, lining to be complete on the evening of 29 August, subject to weather.
