Forewarned is Forearmed : Planned Highways Works For October 2025


The Northern Powergrid, 33KV scheme

  • Otley Road, Harrogate Road closure . Rescheduled to start January 2026, dates to be confirmed.

  • Knaresborough road- junction of Oatlands to Empress roundabout. Currently at this location. Due to be complete Friday 3rd October.  Temporary lights are manned 7am to 7pm.

  • Leeds road junction with Trinity 3rd October- 13th October. Temporary lights will be manned 7am to 7pm.

  • York Place, Harrogate. 23rd October to 19th November Work will commence on the bridge near Stray Rein, under a lane closure. Further works at this location in January 2026, dates to be confirmed.

  • Leeds Road 11the August to 5th September. This section is complete, NPG will be returning to complete a small section at Trinity Road and St Georges Roundabout using temporary lights. This will not commence until Knaresborough road is clear.

 

Northern Powergrid, 11KV scheme

There are a number of upcoming schemes ( but no agreed dates yet). These will be at the following locations:

  • Scheme 1: Harrogate District Hospital scheme - Wayside Avenue, Hookstone Drive, Wayside Crescent, St Leonards Road.

  • Scheme 2: Swan Road and slightly on the A61 and to the substation on Trafalgar Road

  • Scheme 3: Road Rear of Beechwood Crescent along Cold Bath Road to Valley Drive

  • Scheme 4: A joint bay on Portland Crescent and a joint bay on Kings Road

  • Scheme 5: Crescent Road, Kings Road, Parliament Street, Ripon Road

Discussions are ongoing and we will advise of agreed dates as soon as we have these to share.

 

Harrogate Spring Water Scheme  

  • Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road 24th November to 9th January, temporary lights will be in place and will be manned 7am to 7pm.

  • Harlow Moor Road Dates to be confirmed   temporary lights, temporary lights will be in place and will be manned 7am to 7pm.

 

Northern Gas – Ripon Road

  • Hookstone Drive - Works are still ongoing due to complete 10th October

 

Skipton Road, Killinghall. Tesco S278 Highway Improvements.

  • 18 August - 23 November. A one-way closure is in place on Skipton Road, a signed diversion route is in place. The direction of the one-way closure is to remain for the duration of the scheme. The contractor is looking into Saturday working to reduce the programme length.

 

Victoria Avenue Active Travel Fund – North Yorkshire County Council Highway works.

  • Works are complete apart from the footway lighting connections and identified remedial work.

North Yorkshire Council Highways Capital resurfacing schemes.

  • Belford Road and Tower Street- Resurfacing works are complete.

A61 Carriageway Resurfacing works

  • Resurfacing and lining is complete

Pre Surface-Dressing Patching work- Chain Bar Lane 27th to 31st October

  • A road closure will be implemented, access will be facilitated where possible.

Footpath slurry seal surfacing programme 20th to 29th October.

This will take place on the following streets:

  • Grove Park Terrace

  • Grove Park View

  • Grove Park Avenue

  • Baden Street

  • Powell Street

  • Mafeking Street

  • French Street

  • East Parade

Delivery of a crossing point at Wetherby Road /Slingsby Walk

6th to 17th October Civils work will take place.

20th to 23rd October the signals installation and commissioning will take place. Works will take place on lights during the day with a two evening road closures anticipated for resurfacing. All signals will be manually controlled during peak times and advanced notices and diversion signage will be erected for any closures required.

Please note that the delivery of the crossing point on the Oatlands road side of Slingsby walk has been programmed for February. Further details will be provided in the new year.


As we head into the winter months you should be aware that there is a Christmas embargo on planned works on strategic routes into and out of Harrogate and Knaresborough from 24th November to 5th January, any safety critical works will be facilitated, but this does take some pressure off the network over the Christmas period.
