Communities That Shine Brighter: Public Event To Explore Community Energy In Harrogate And Knaresborough
Local residents are invited to a free public event in March to explore how community-owned energy could help power Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Organised by local climate action charity Zero Carbon Harrogate, the event will share the results of a new feasibility study carried out with energy expertsD3 Associates, looking at how solar power could be generated on community buildings across the area.
The study has identified potential sites for audit, assessed rooftops and explored what could realistically work to generate clean electricity, lower energy bills, and keep money circulating locally.
At the event, you will hear about the latest findings, learn what could happen next, and discover ways to get involved – from shaping plans to supporting a fully funded community energy project.
The evening will include expert speakers, practical tips and advice and discussion around ideas for creating a local energy club (such as those promoted by Energy Local) structured within a non-profit Cooperative business. This enables residents to buy renewable electricity directly from local generators at a reduced rate, reducing energy bills and pollution.
The event is open to everyone, whether new to community energy or already involved. Refreshments will be available from 6.30pm, with the event starting at 7pm. Attendance is free, with donations welcome on the night.
Event details: 📅 Tuesday 24th March 🕖 7pm – 8.30pm (refreshments from 6.30pm) 📍 West Park United Reform Church, Victoria Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 1BL
