Tom Gordon MP joins Happy Wanderers Ambulance Organisation to celebrate new minibus for elderly and disabled
Tom Gordon, the Liberal Democrat MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, visited Happy Wanderers a local charity that provides free transport to the elderly and disable to celebrate the purchase of their new minibus.
Mr Gordon joined the organisation at their base in Harrogate last week to view the new vehicle. He heard how the group, which relies entirely on donations, raised over £58,000 for the new bus and its upkeep.
The charity offers a wide range of outings, including trips to local attractions, shopping expeditions, the seaside and churches. They allow clients with no other means of transport to visit family or friends for special events or attend medical appointments.
As they near their 70th year of providing free transport, the Happy Wanderers are on the hunt for new volunteers.
Tom is encouraging residents to volunteer their time for the organisation.
Tom said:
“Happy Wanderers are a real gem. Their transport support is a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable.
“I encourage residents to offer their time where they can. Whether it’s helping someone get to an appointment or a trip to the seaside, even a day a week could make all the difference.”
