Moving Forward: A Vision for Healthy and Thriving Communities in York and North Yorkshire
Putting the health of people and supporting thriving communities is at the heart of Mayor David Skaith’s vision for York and North Yorkshire. Through the new Moving Forward campaign, the Mayor and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA) are investing over £7 million to empower communities, improve wellbeing, and grow the regional economy.
The campaign focuses on four key areas:
Active Travel
Movement, Activity and Sport
Men’s Mental Health
Connected to the Outdoors
These programmes reflect what “healthy and thriving communities” means to Mayor Skaith, who grew up with a love of sport and understands its power to unite people and support mental health. His personal experiences have shaped his commitment to helping others, particularly men facing mental health challenges.
Work is already underway to tackle regional issues such as transport access and housing affordability. By collaborating with local experts and partners, YNYCA aims to build on this progress and ensure long-term impact.
“This campaign is about working together under one ambition,” said Mayor Skaith. “When we unite, we have a bigger voice and a stronger foundation for change.”
The Combined Authority will continue to explore new ideas and develop further programmes to meet the evolving needs of communities across the region.
Organisations are encouraged to share the campaign and get involved. If this work aligns with your goals, please contact us to explore partnership opportunities.
