Harrogate Community Gathers for an Inspiring Evening of Menopause Wellness
With only one in four women feeling prepared for the menopause, Spire Harrogate Clinic is helping break the stigma by opening the conversation.
Spire Harrogate Clinic was delighted to welcome ladies from across the region to its ‘Mastering Menopause’ evening, an event designed to inform, empower, and support women navigating the menopause.
Led by Dr Clare Spencer, a registered British Menopause Society Menopause Specialist, the session explored the menopause, a natural life stage that usually occurs between 45 and 55, during which hormone levels, particularly oestrogen, decline. Up to 80% of women experience menopausal symptoms*, with just 1 in 4 feeling prepared for the menopause. **Common symptoms include hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, brain fog, joint pain, and changes in pelvic floor function.
Designed to inform and empower, the evening explored symptoms, long term health consequences and treatment options - including hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Guests were encouraged to share experiences, ask questions relevant to their personal journey and were guided towards appropriate next steps in care.
One attendee noted: “I have found the event incredibly informative and enjoyable. The atmosphere was so relaxed, and listening to other people’s questions—especially the ones I hadn’t even thought to ask—was really reassuring. I left feeling much better informed and more confident about the next steps to take.”
Jacqui Millington, Women’s Health Physiotherapist at Spire Leeds Hospital also offered valuable guidance on managing pelvic health concerns, many of which can be influenced by hormonal shifts. Attendees learned how physiotherapy can play a crucial role in improving comfort, confidence, and overall wellbeing during the menopause.
Dr Spencer, said: “It was great to see so many people coming together to learn, share, and feel supported. Menopause can impact women physically, mentally and emotionally. For many it can feel an overwhelming and confusing time. My goal is always to provide clear, evidence-based information that helps women feel understood and empowered. Having our specialist women’s health physiotherapist join us meant we could offer truly holistic advice — covering everything from hormones to pelvic health. The energy in the room was wonderful, and I’m delighted we could create such a welcoming, informative event for our community.”
Adding a touch of luxury, attendees also received bespoke beauty advice and hand massages from Tropic Skincare - a British natural beauty brand known for its focus on freshly made, sustainably sourced skincare, body care, and makeup products.
