Harrogate & District Community Action And The Local Fund

Harrogate & District Community Action are proud partners of The LOCAL Fund for the Harrogate District, and funding applications are now being accepted from charities and community groups who are addressing particular issues within our community.

One theme the fund supports is inequality and hidden poverty, which is a particular issue in our community, since we have a big discrepancy between the income from the lowest paid jobs here and the lowest housing costs available.   This means people’s disposable income is more stretched here than in other places.

Secondly, the fund supports loneliness and isolation, affecting people of all ages, and having a direct impact on health and wellbeing, a third priority for the fund.  Finally, for the first time this year, funding will also be specifically allocated to projects supporting children and young people, which we know through the work of Chamber members such as Wellspring and Time Together, will be very welcome, due to increasing demand for support for our next generation.   Applications for grants of up to £3000 can be submitted until noon on Mon 19th May.  If you are involved in any kind of local community group, do have a look at the Two Ridings Community Foundation website:  www.tworidingscf.org.uk  and check whether you might be eligible, as applications from grass roots organisations are very much encouraged.

And for Chamber members who are not involved in any groups that might apply, please do consider donating to The LOCAL Fund via the Two Ridings Community Foundation website.  When attending Chamber meetings, it’s easy to spot people’s eyes glazing over as soon as you say you work for a charity – when there are so many great not for profit businesses in the room, it can be hard to know which to support. Donating to The LOCAL Fund means your contribution will help a range of local good causes at once.

HADCA were proud to be the Chamber’s Charity of the Year, when our name was drawn at last year’s AGM.  We hope you have enjoyed reading our articles this past year and now understand more about how we support local charities and encourage more local people to volunteer.  This also marks the end of my time as CEO at HADCA and I know our new CEO Elaine Stevenson is looking forward to getting to know Chamber members over the coming months.  Thank you for your support for the local voluntary sector:  we’re here when you, your staff, friends or neighbours need us. Please check out our local, fully searchable directory for details of the support available www.hadca.org.uk/wheretoturn
