The bus firm is already seeing encouraging increases in customer numbers, having recorded its best and busiest weekend since the first lockdown of Spring 2020, with 16 per cent more customers getting on board on 22 and 23 May compared with the previous Saturday and Sunday.
Parent company Transdev now hopes its new campaign will help shift the area’s economic bounce-back into top gear by attracting more people to use its buses to work, shop and socialise with the lifting of pandemic restrictions in line with the Government’s roadmap.
The Harrogate Bus Company’s big four fare deals are available now and every day until 30 September 2021, and include:
- For commuters: 10 per cent off all monthly tickets sold on the free to download Transdev Go mobile app.
- For city slickers: £2 off return tickets with new CitySaver fares into Leeds on the premium 36 service from Ripon and Harrogate
- For new and existing customers: a FREE day ticket for those who open a new account on the Transdev Go mobile app.
- For the evening economy: A bargain £1 go anywhere single fare available for any single journey after 7pm each evening, on any service run by The Harrogate Bus Company, including the 36 between Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds and the 7 between Harrogate, Wetherby and Leeds.
Transdev Commercial Director Paul Turner said: “We’re very encouraged by the positive numbers of customers already returning to travel with us. We know our buses can play a vital part in our area’s economic revival beyond the pandemic, and with that in mind, we’ve created this exciting package of fare savings to support the region’s recovery and help everyone to enjoy travelling safely for less.
“The offers last all summer long and are available every day until the end of September, to give everyone the chance to get out and about with us and enjoy visiting our great cities, bustling market towns and coastal resorts bursting with attractions for the family.
“As always, all of our buses are clean, safe and ready to go, and with big price cuts, money off and free travel, there can be no better time than now to come back to bus with us.”
Transdev’s summer Back to Bus campaign is being welcomed by David Sidebottom, Director at the independent watchdog Transport Focus.
Mr Sidebottom said: “This package of four value for money offers is very welcome news, as it provides a range of incentives to return to the bus at a time when our country is moving towards the final stage in the Government’s road map out of lockdown restrictions.
“Our own customer research indicates a clear desire among bus users, including those who lapsed from bus travel during the pandemic when non-essential travel was discouraged, for positive incentives to encourage their safe return as restrictions have eased and non-essential shops and hospitality businesses have reopened.
“Buses play a critical role in supporting the economy, while tackling road congestion and pollution. Free travel on Transdev’s clean and safe buses will provide an added incentive for many to come back to the bus this summer.”
