Harrogate Borough Council's response to the Covid pandemic, and its plans for the District’s economic recovery, will come under the spotlight at a specially convened business event next Monday. (July 6)
Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce – which last met in March – is holding its first ever members’ Zoom meeting, with Council Leader Richard Cooper and Chief Executive Wallace Sampson, OBE, as the guest speakers.
After detailing the authority’s reaction to the shutdown of the economy, and outlining their plans for its recovery, the pair will then answer questions posed by Chamber members.
Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce’s Chief Executive Sandra Doherty said: “Now that we are emerging from the coronavirus lockdown, we decided the time was right to restart our meetings, albeit on this occasion via the internet.
“For our first meeting since March, we felt it was important to hear from two leading players in the District, namely Harrogate Borough Council leader, Richard Cooper, and its chief executive, Wallace Sampson, OBE.
“The last three months has seen the authority give vital support to the local business community in terms of rates relief, rent holidays and business grants, and now it is helping these same businesses reopen in a safe and responsible manner.
“Our members are eager to know what the plans are for the future of the District’s economy, and in particular the Council’s vision for reviving Harrogate town centre.
“It certainly promises to be an interesting meeting and questions for the pair are already beginning to fill my inbox.”
Sandra added: “We envisage that our next two monthly meetings will also be held on Zoom, but are hopeful that come October we will once again be able to meet again, in person, with members benefiting from the pre and post networking sessions our events are known for.”
Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce’s meeting, which is open to members only, begins at 6pm on Monday, July 6. It is being limited to 100 delegates, with places offered on a first-come, first-served, basis.
