Update on the Chamber's AGM

21 Apr 2020 by Sandra Doherty

The Chamber's AGM usually takes place in May but, for obvious reasons, this won't be possible in 2020. Our intention is to reschedule for later in the year, but we won't set a date until it is clear when we will be able to meet.

For now, all our management group officers and members will remain in post. This includes Steve Scarre, who comes to the end of his two-year presidency this year, and Vicky Carr, who is stepping down as our communications officer.

Other retiring group members will also stay on until we are able to hold our AGM and gain approval from Chamber members for the changes.

Thank you to all our management group members for agreeing to continue as they are for now, and for the time they have given to support the Chamber while also running their businesses during the current crisis.

Meanwhile, members have been told that our fees are being suspended for six months. Renewals usually take place in April, but we will not be taking direct debit payments until October.

This is in recognition of the extraordinarily tough circumstances in which all businesses now find themselves. We want to do our part to ease the pressures on our members.

Early in the crisis, we were contacted by several member businesses who wanted to continue to gain the benefits of being part of the Chamber but, with their income suddenly dropping away, had to look to cut all possible costs. To prevent business owners from having to make tough decisions, all members in 2019-20 will have the first six months of their 2020-21 membership free of charge.

That applies whether or not we are able to meet in person during that time. We will continue to send updates by email and to update our blog page with the latest information relevant to businesses, from both national government and local groups and organisations.

Please do keep checking the blog for the latest information and links to support. If you have useful information or news to share with members, please send it to Sandra (along with a picture if possible) and we'll add it to the blog.

Our thoughts are with all of you struggling through the current crisis and having to make very difficult decisions. When things begin to improve, we'll do all we can to ensure we can all get back to business as soon and as safely as possible.
