Meet the new man with a financial plan for business success – Seth King is the new Finance Director at North of England bus operator Transdev Blazefield.
48-year-old Seth brings a wealth of finance experience to his new role with the Harrogate-based operator, whose high-profile and successful branded bus services include Cityzap, Coastliner and the 36 in Yorkshire, and the Witchway, Red Express and Mainline in Lancashire.
The company’s presence in the North West expanded significantly in 2018 with the purchase of the Rosso operation in Rossendale and Greater Manchester – and Seth is keen to steer the business on a stable and profitable route to further growth.
Seth said: “I’m delighted to be joining Transdev Blazefield at a time when the bus has such a vital role to play in delivering transport solutions for the North’s communities. Transdev’s locally managed buses provide an essential service in getting people from A to B efficiently, and in an environmentally-friendly manner.
“Transdev Blazefield already has a strong reputation as an industry leader, and I’m looking forward to working closely with colleagues to make the most of the many exciting opportunities to further grow the business in 2019 and beyond.
“I’m also excited by the potential for this business to become the greenest operator in the market. We’ve already made a positive start to this important journey, with eight high-tech all-electric buses entering service in Harrogate, the first of their kind anywhere in the UK, in a joint investment worth almost £4 million.
“I’m ready to get to know our people, our business and the bus industry and to help us steer a path to profitability and stability, as we continue to grow in the years ahead.”
Seth graduated from Birmingham University and then trained as a chartered accountant with Deloitte. Nine years followed working with GE Capital in their consumer finance division in Leeds where he progressed through various finance roles.
Seth’s next move saw him enter senior management as Head of Finance at VocaLink, who provide Bacs and ATM services to UK banks and building societies. He then became Finance Director at Hemingways, a market leading gift card business providing services to many leading high-street brands.
Seth joins Transdev from an interim role as Financial Controller with the York-based rail holiday provider Great Rail Journeys.
Transdev Blazefield CEO Alex Hornby said: “Seth comes to us with a highly successful track record of financial experience, and clearly shares our passion for amazing customer service.
“As our business continues to grow across the North, it’s vital that our plans are supported by a stable and sustainable approach to finance. Seth brings all the right qualities to this important role, and I’m looking forward to welcoming him on board.”
Seth is married to a school teacher and the couple have three children and live in Harrogate.
