The home-grown concept, which uses up-to-the-minute mobile data technology to make access to bus travel swift and simple, has been crowned the UK’s Most Innovative Transport Project of the Year at the National Transport Awards in London.
Supported by the Department for Transport and watchdog Transport Focus, the hotly-contested National Transport Awards are the Oscars of the UK’s transport industry.
From its original roots in Harrogate, Skipton and east Lancashire, VAMOOZ has grown rapidly over the last two years across many areas of Britain, from Cornwall and Southampton in the south to Harrogate and Teesside in the north.
At the heart of VAMOOZ is a free to download app, built for ease of use, which offers customers a one-stop shop to browse day trips, suggest destinations and buy tickets, all through their own mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet.
Transdev Blazefield CEO Alex Hornby said: “I’m absolutely delighted with this award win. It’s proof that the hard work, innovative approach and creative thought we have placed in VAMOOZ over the past year has paid off and has been rewarded by our peers.
“We believe VAMOOZ demonstrates that the future planning of transport networks need to involve customer and economic demands more than we do now. It also sums us up here at Transdev Blazefield: we are a creative, customer-centric and future thinking organisation not afraid to try new mobility models.
“I’m thrilled that the VAMOOZ success story has now been recognised with this high profile national award, amongst some highly distinguished organisations but right across the UK transport sector in road and rail.”
VAMOOZ Sales and Operations Manager Rebecca Reeve-Burnett has led the development and rapid expansion of VAMOOZ across Britain. Rebecca said: “I’m thrilled that we’ve received this award, not just for the team here at Transdev Blazefield, but also for our growing list of partner bus operators who are taking up the idea with real enthusiasm and dedication.
“The great thing about VAMOOZ is its simplicity – anyone with a mobile device can simply download the free VAMOOZ app, choose the trip they want to join, or suggest a new one.
“It gives customers the freedom to go where they choose, and the more who ride, the lower the fare for everyone on board. The growing VAMOOZ network has already run hundreds of days out, home-to-school transport services and commuter journeys, giving everyone who travels great value.
“We’re forging new partnerships all the time to bring the VAMOOZ concept to more areas of Britain – our latest will see it expand to Tyneside, Wearside and County Durham thanks to a deal with North East bus operator Stanley Travel. And we’re also working to bring VAMOOZ to Scotland for the first time very soon.”
Each partner bus company offers a selection of day trips, school or work travel to book in advance via the free to download VAMOOZ app – simply search for VAMOOZ in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
