Following extended consultation with DalesBus and Harrogate Chamber of Trade, a successful meeting on Wednesday (6 September) was held to herald the start of a new partnership between The Harrogate Bus Company and Harrogate Water. The first element of this will secure the Sunday timetable of the 24 through the winter months ahead of a wider range of enhancements and continued community liaison on the 24 in the next 12 months.
Alex Hornby, our CEO, said: “We have always been keen to find a way to bring security and stability to our important route 24 through Nidderdale, and promised we would work with the community to identify ways to bring about improvements. This new, groundbreaking partnership with Harrogate Water, brought about through our relationship and ongoing consultation with Nidderdale Chamber of Trade and DalesBus, will secure the winter Sunday service and will lead the way into exciting improvements to the 24 over the next year.”
James Cain OBE, CEO, Harrogate Water said: “We are delighted to support a local campaign that will secure a vital community transport link. We look forward to exploring how we can further support this service for both the local community and this beautiful part of Yorkshire, and how this can help build a wider relationship with The Harrogate Bus Company.”
Paul Chattwood, Commercial Director, Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company said: “This partnership demonstrates a new way forward to maintaining rural bus services in difficulty economic times. We are keen to help develop the service as part of the popular DalesBus network.”
As well as securing the 24 on Sundays through the winter for at least two more years, we've also been able to take a fresh look at the timetable. The 24 on Sundays will now connect better with the 36 from Leeds, the 70 & 71 from Wetherby and Leeds, and Yorkshire Tiger's 747 from the Airport.
New timetables for the 24 will be available to download here soon, and keep a lookout for news of even more improvements coming soon to the 24, including newer, better buses featuring free WiFi & USB power!
