Brian Dunsby

He is best known to us for his work as Chamber Chief Exec for 14 years until he retired in 2016.

His passions have been Trains, Roads and all things transport related within Harrogate. He is credited with working with the Train Companies to bring more frequent trains to London and a better service between Leeds Harrogate and York Harrogate. Leeds Bradford Airport to ensure we kept the London Shuttle has never been far from his radar and he keeps a close eye on connectivity to Europe which is important for our business travellers.

His voice on the state of the roads and traffic lights and their sequencing has, I am sure kept North Yorkshire transport department busy answering his very pertinent questions.

Brian is a force to be reckoned with, when he sets his mind to do something you can bet it will be done or the whole town will hear about it.

Brian has promoted the economy and encouraged more visitors through his two successful events. The Yorkshire Business Market (12 years) and the more recent Christmas Market (5 years). His aim was always to support the local retailers and restaurants and to keep Harrogate firmly in the minds of potential visitors to Harrogate.

Although he will always share the credit with the many volunteers who make both these events happen and his Perlex Team, Beryl - his wife, Maggie Hall - administrator and Chris Muir – database. The vision is his and he motivates his team to make it a reality.

He also recognised the Chamber, the Past Presidents Group and the Management Group who have always been supportive of his many activities.

I am sure you would all like to join with me in congratulating Brian on his well-deserved OBE.

We know it stands for Order of the British Empire but for me it stands for Originally Brian’s Enthusiasm which is how most things get done.
