'Rooting for Harrogate'

12 May 2017 by Lynn Mee

'Rooting for Harrogate' is a new campaign which has been launched to support Harrogate's bid to become the Champion of Champions in this year's Britain in Bloom awards.

Winning the title would give Harrogate the crown as the best floral town in the UK - a massive accolade which would have a direct impact on our tourism based economy.

We are entering as 'Team Harrogate' and hope to gain the support of businesses across the town as well to help us win!

Already Harrogate Spring Water has partnered with the organisers Harrogate in Bloom to promote the bid, and I am delighted to support this initiative as editor of the Harrogate Advertiser.

We will be publicising details of all that's happening in the run-up to the judges visiting our town, and printing a roll of honour of those businesses who are helping in various ways to promote our chances of winning.

Team Harrogate' isn't particularly asking for financial contributions; we would like commitment to support the bid, and ideas of practical ways in which businesses could help.

To that end, the Cedar Court Hotel in Harrogate, through its general manager Simon Cotton, has very kindly agreed to host a breakfast meeting on Thursday May 25th from 8a.m, lasting for approximately one hour. You can find out more about the bid, what you might be able to do to get behind it,  and equally importantly, how you can use the success to derive benefit for your own business as well.

If you are able to attend, we would be grateful if you could email Lynne Mee at Harrogate in Bloom: email mee.lynne2@gmail.com

The town has an extraordinary record of achievement: 33 times winner of Yorkshire in Bloom, 12 times winner of Britain in Bloom and the only town ever to have won Europe in Bloom twice. This is the third-time Harrogate has been nominated in the Champion of Champions category.

Harrogate Water marketing manager Nicky Cain says in her endorsement: "Harrogate has an outstanding reputation in the RHS competition and we will do all we can to help and raise awareness of the town’s record of achievement. There's real value to the competition both at a community level and a commercial level for local businesses. We have recently become a major partner of Keep Britain Tidy and we are delighted to partner with Harrogate in Bloom."

So please, if you can spare an hour, come along to find out how you could support Team Harrogate and our 'Rooting for Harrogate' campaign.

With very best wishes
